Giovanna Bobincheck

California State University, Chico, Liberal Studies
Gio is back for her fourth year at Roughing It! She is a Roughing It alumni, and will be joining us as a unit leader again this summer. Gio graduated from California State University, Chico this spring. She has a degree in Liberal Studies, and plans on becoming an elementary school teacher. This year she worked as a tutor on campus, as well as at an after school program where she organized crafts, ran sports games, and helped students with homework. She also was a coach for Girls on the Run. We are so excited to have Gio back this summer!
Scott Hroza
Group Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Psychology and Law and Society
Scott is joining us for his first year at Roughing It as a group counselor! He currently attends Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and is majoring in psychology with a minor in law and society. He is a member of the Cal Poly Club Baseball team, and has played since his freshman year of college. Scott loves being outdoors and playing sports, and is excited to bring his optimism and fun personality to Roughing It this summer!
Joseph Hudson

Joe is joining us for his first year at Roughing It as a group counselor! Joe attends UCLA and is majoring in economics with plans to become a financial consultant. Growing up, he spent much of his time in school, sports, and camps. He played soccer and volleyball in high school, and participates in various intramurals in college. Joe is super excited to bring his fun energy to camp and be a great mentor for the campers!
Michal Kaplunovsky
Group Counselor, 2nd Year Staff Member
University of Oregon, Psychology and Sociology
Michal is joining us for her second year at Roughing It as a group counselor! Michal was born in Israel, but grew up in San Jose. She is fluent in English, Hebrew, and Russian. She attends the University of Oregon and is double majoring in psychology and sociology. In middle school she got involved in a youth group and had the opportunity to plan events and hold leadership positions. She was able to attend regional wide conventions and expand her skills. In high school, she served as a class representative for her school’s Associated Student Body Leadership class. She participated on her school’s varsity soccer and track teams, and was captain senior year. In college she is a part of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority, and was awarded Chapter and Philanthropy of the Year. She spends her time at school studying and working a campus job. Michal is excited to be back at Roughing It for another amazing summer!
Jessica Nettles

We are happy to welcome Jess to the Roughing It staff this year! She will be a group counselor this summer. Jess attends the University of Oregon and is majoring in education with a minor in special education. She hopes to become a teacher and join her brother in law school after she graduates. Throughout school she was involved in various sports as well as student body. Jess is excited to meet all of the campers!
Stefanie Sanchez

University of Arizona, Care, Health, and Society and Psychology
We are excited to welcome Stef to the Roughing It staff as a group counselor! She attends the University of Arizona and is studying care, health, and society with a minor in psychology. She has plans to go into counseling. Stef has been a member and group leader of a city program called “Youth Taking on Tobacco”, an employee for her city as a Youth Sports Leader, and has been involved in many clubs. She played on her school’s Junior Varsity Basketball team, where she was named Most Improved and Inspirational Player on her team. She has also participated in coastal clean-ups to help beautify and preserve the local community. In college, she is in the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and has participated in Club Rugby. Stef is looking forward to a fun summer at camp!
Sam Tuttle

Michigan State University, Education
Sam is joining us for his first summer at Roughing It as a group counselor! He currently attends Michigan State University and is studying education with plans to become a history teacher. In high school, he was captain of the football and lacrosse teams, where he gained great leadership skills. He has previously worked at OK camp, and is excited to start a new camp experience at Roughing It. We’re happy to have Sam at camp this summer!
Emma Wilcox
Group Counselor, 2nd Year Staff Member
University of Oregon, Journalism, Spanish
Emma is back for her second year at Roughing It as a group counselor! She currently attends the University of Oregon and is majoring in journalism with a minor in Spanish. While at school, she spends her free time volunteering at a local charter school in Eugene. She attended summer camp for many years growing up, and believes that the comfort and acceptance that children feel while at camp is one of the most important aspects. We’re super excited for Emma to bring her fun energy and positive spirit back to camp this summer!
