Orientation and Staff Training

Hi new and returning staff! The following is important orientation and training that you will need to complete before you are able to work at Roughing It

1. All Staff Mandatory Training

Read all material and complete all quizzes by start of Staff Training, June 10.

  • Log in or create a new account on RIU: https://riu.roughingit.com/ 
  • Complete the “All Staff Mandatory Training” sections
    – Complete the Mini-O course and quizzes (New Staff Only)

2. ALL Staff Meet & Greet – Camp Info and Q&A (New & Returning Staff)

This is a “meet and greet” where everyone can introduce themselves. We’ll go over what to expect working at Roughing It, and there will be time to answer any questions you have about training and camp.

3. Staff Training

  • Mon-Sat, June 10-16. Information will be emailed to you the week before.
  • Some portions will be done on zoom and RIU Staff Training course
  • The rest of the training will be done in person at the Lafayette Reservoir or our training center in Lafayette

4. First Aid & CPR Training 

All staff need to be certified for First Aid / CPR. There are many websites that say they offer online First Aid / CPR training, but only certificates through the American Red Cross (ARC) or American Hearth Association (AHA) that include in-person skill training are acceptable.

Roughing It offers a course that you can do online with in-person skill training on Sunday, June 16. To complete this course:

  1. Sign Up for a time slot for the in-person skills test on Sunday, June 16. 
  2. Complete the ARC online course. You must complete this before you do the in-person skill check.
  3. Print or have available the online certificate of completion on your cellphone.  You will need to present this to the instructor when you do your in-person skill testing.
