Testimonials
We look forward to camp all year and it always turns out to be the best part of the year.
He’s loving being a CILT (Counselor In Leadership Training), and it is really good for him!
I loved my group and everyone became close friends.
Working at Roughing It, I learned that kids, no matter what they do, aim to please.
I think that it’s much more important to act as a positive role model than to act ‘cool.’
I like that camp gives us the opportunity to try a lot of new things that we wouldn’t have tried.
Also that we can be introduced to new friends that we probably wouldn’t have the opportunity to meet.
Summer is for being brave and bold!
We sent our 1st grader to a 4-week session this summer, and she had the time of her life…
What makes this place special are the traditions, sessions and wonderful outdoor setting at the reservoir. The group environment is really conductive to building camaraderie, and strong friendships.
Roughing It was a terrific growth experience for both our kids and the best summer ever.
It provides a healthy, wholesome environment for kids to live, learn, doing all sorts of activities that allow them to enjoy summer to its fullest while learning skills that will help them in life.
He was happy, dirty, ate like a horse, slept like a log, and got to do things he couldn’t do anywhere else.
Every one of the staff knows my daughter’s name, and there was no doubt she felt loved there.
It’s really cool you can be with totally different people you’ve never been with before.
Kids have amazing imaginations, and they know a lot more about life than we think.
Roughing It is the highlight of the year for us
and we feel that it is one of the best experiences for developing the whole person that we can provide for our kids.
The biggest take away that campers get from Roughing It is that they’re asked to challenge themselves in ways that don’t happen in a more structured school environment.
The biggest benefit is that we learn the importance of being an individual within a group. To be a group here, you have to be able to work together and to go through problems together. We ask campers to be creative, we ask them to be kind and above all, we ask them to think about how they interact with other campers and I think that there are only a few outlets, especially for younger children that actually provide that.
I like the fact that at Roughing It you get to do all these activities that you rarely get to do other places.
Helping campers to conquer new challenges, and watching the uncertainty in their eyes be replaced by the confident and courageous look that only comes when you have reached deep down inside of yourself, and conquer your fears.
Seeing this happen to a member of your group is something I hope every counselor is able to experience. This is really what our job is all about!
I really don’t want this to end, I’ll be sad when it’s all over.
On the last day of camp a camper told me ‘I don’t have friends at school, but now I do’
and when his mother came to camp to hug me and thank me. She said I was the reason her son was always smiling now – that’s when I knew I had made a difference.
These campers do hold counselors on very high pedestals.
They are gods in their eyes, they are the rock stars that they want to be.
[Our son] August came home singing new songs every day and loved teaching them to us.
August loved camp. He cried last week when he found out it was his last week. He was so sad he had to wait another year to go again!
“I’m choosing Roughing It Day Camp for my son this summer so he can have a chance to just be a kid again!”
He bonded with the counselors and co-campers and I believe this was really instrumental in his learning what was being taught even better than he had in the past. He grew a lot in the area of working as a team. I have already recommended the camp to various friends and they are planning to send their children.
Experience was worth every penny!
My kid is already looking forward to next summer!
My son really loves Roughing It Camp.
He was so sad to see it end and he cannot wait to come back next summer!
Camp is all about making new friends!
Camp can teach the campers a lot of life skills.
One of the big ones that we work on in my group is working as a team and cooperating because when they get to see that final reward when they all work together and they come and they make this product and its better than anything any of them could have made individually, that’s really rewarding to them and it’s really rewarding to me. I think that’s a great skill to have, at camp and in life.
I think Roughing It has taught me how to overcome my fears.
I really liked how my son felt part of something and was proud to wear the T-shirt.
I really like to think that when the campers leave that they believe that they are capable of way more than they originally thought when they came into camp.
Roughing It is William’s happy place. He cannot wait to return!
My daughter loved camp so much that she attended camp for 4 weeks and then went back for 4 more! The skills she learned over the summer were incredible.
I loved Roughing It as a kid and my son loves it now!
It’s great to develop and foster in my son the appreciation for outdoors that I had as a child.
I loved the times when campers would share something from their “outside” life with me.
It showed that they valued me as more than a counselor – as a friend.
The friends and relationships that you make at camp are really special because
they really are forever. I still keep in contact with people that were in my group so many years ago.
Something that camp has taught me is how to create friendships and how to keep them.
We build relationships that really do last a lifetime. There are a lot of people that I’ve met throughout camp that I still keep in touch with. I love how camp is the foundation of our friendship.
I just loved my campers and am so happy for the time I got to spend with them.
All the great little moments added up to a wonderful summer. I hope to work at Roughing It again. The past two summers have been amazing and I love camp so much…
I appreciate that Roughing It hires the best staff to be role models for my boys.
What I love about camp is how it makes you feel like we’re all a family!
I made great friends at camp and met my best friends.
