Summer Camps Serving San Francisco
For children ages 4 to 16. Free transportation from San Francisco.
Roughing It Day Camp offers summer camps at the beautiful Lafayette Reservoir in the East Bay. Campers spend an exciting summer outside, participating in a variety of outdoor activities. There is time to unplug and make lasting friendships in a safe, supportive environment created by our nurturing adult counselors. The key benefits of our program:
Free Transportation from San Francisco
We provide transportation from the city using school buses driven by professional school bus drivers. Every bus has a Roughing It adult counselor on board to assign bus buddies, lead activities, and make the ride a fun part of camp.
Bus stops from San Francisco include:
- Alta Plaza Park
- Clayton & Parnassus
- French American Intl. School (FAIS)
- Douglass Playground (Noe Valley)
- St. Francis Wood
- Lake & Funston
Buses pick up between 7:50-8:15am, and drop off 3:45-4:10pm, depending on location. There is optional, free extended care that drop off at FAIS at 6:20pm.
A Community Where Kids Learn to Thrive
Roughing It Day Camp is more than a camp: it is a safe community where campers feel at home. For the whole camp day (9am to 3pm), campers are always with the same small group of children their age for the entire session, led by a group counselor who is always there to supervise, inspire, and help them grow.
Our program is fun and exciting for children, and gives them a chance to unplug, be outside, make friends, and learn life skills.
A Summer Tradition Since 1972
Generations of children have attended Roughing It since its founding in 1972 by Ann & Hobie Woods, who are still owners and directors to this day. Their daughter Amy is currently head director.
Roughing It has become a kind of family – campers returning year after year, campers becoming counselors, and even alumni bringing their children in their adult years.
