Meagan Mason
Waterfront Director, 2nd Year Staff Member
Saint Mary’s College, Education and Psychology
Meagan is returning for her second year at Roughing It! She will be joining us as Waterfront Director this year. She currently attends Saint Mary’s College and is majoring in education and psychology, with plans to become an English teacher. This past semester she volunteered with Reading Partners of Oakland, which is a local organization that helps elementary school kids build on the necessary reading skills they need and also helps with reading comprehension at a young age. She is excited to bring her fun energy to camp this summer, and hopes to be a good role model for the campers!
Baxter Schumacher-Dowell
Waterfront Asst Dir/TwiFi Dir, 2nd Year Staff Member
Diablo Valley College, Economics
Baxter is back for his second year at Roughing It! He will be joining us as the Waterfront assistant director/Twilight Fishing director. Baxter attends Diablo Valley College and is studying economics. He has worked for Wente Scout Reservation where he learned how to be an effective instructor and guide for youth. While scouting, he went on many trips that tested his abilities. In high school, he helped found various clubs, including Mountain Biking, Water Polo, and Ultimate Frisbee. He also worked on a Boy Scout Reservation where he taught several merit badge classes. Baxter did a great job applying his skills at camp last summer, and we’re happy to have him back!
Alexandra Baker
Canoeing Counselor, 2nd Year Staff Member
California State University, Humboldt, Marine Biology
Alex is back for her second year at Roughing It! She will be joining us down on the waterfront this summer. She attends California State University, Humboldt and is majoring in marine biology. She serves as the vice president of the Sailing Club, and is in the process of getting skipper certified. Alex is also continuing her research along the Humboldt coast on sea star waste disease. We’re excited to have Alex back this summer!
Aaron Christensen
OE Fishing Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
Brigham Young University, Accounting
Aaron is joining us for his first year at Roughing It! He currently attends Brigham Young University and is majoring in accounting. Growing up, he was in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Eagle Scouts, and also played the clarinet in his school band. Aaron has had many volunteering opportunities, such as volunteering as a missionary for his church in Angola, Africa, and serving as a volunteer in India for three weeks for a program called Rising Star. Here he worked with children who’s parents had leprosy. He has also volunteered at a camp for kids with muscular dystrophy. We are excited for Aaron to join us at camp!
Morgan Shepherd
Kayaking Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
University of California, Santa Cruz, Environmental Studies and Biology
Morgan is joining us for her first year at Roughing It as our Kayaking counselor! She currently attends UC Santa Cruz and is majoring in environmental studies and biology. She hopes to become an environmental consultant/national park ranger. In high school, she was the business editor and photography editor for the yearbook committee, in multiple clubs, and on the varsity softball team as well as the volleyball team. Morgan has a love for kids, and is super excited to meet all of the campers!
Rebecca Weissman
Rowing Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
University of the Pacific, Sports Science, Pedagogy
Becca is joining us for her first year at Roughing It as rowing counselor! She graduated from University of the Pacific and majored in sports science with a concentration in pedagogy. In college, she developed a passion for rowing, and has continued to row competitively for the past eight years. She has been a rowing coach for seven years, and has coached people of all ages. Becca has also been the head coach of women’s rowing at Sonoma State University, but is eager to return to a simpler and relaxed rowing environment. Becca can’t wait to meet all of the campers down on the waterfront this summer!
